What spring clothing should i be wearing?

Spring is a time of year when the weather can throw pretty much anything at you, from warm sunny days to hail or even snow showers, so it pays to be prepared for any conditions.

One day you can be sunning yourself in just a t-shirt and maybe even a pair of shorts, then the next you might be reaching for a warm or waterproof jacket as the weather completely changes.

Spring clothing is often a mixture of what you'd wear in the summer months plus garments for colder days

Being prepared for any eventuality, without carrying your entire wardrobe with you on the bank, will mean that you’re able to stay comfortable and fishing effectively, whatever conditions are thrown at you.

T-shirts and polo shirts

A t-shirt or polo is a great choice as a base layer when you are expecting some warmer days, and especially if you’re doing something more active such as walking or pushing your barrow around the lake.

Our extensive range of t-shirts includes something to suit any taste

The standard Korda t-shirts are incredibly comfortable to wear with a peach-skin feel against your skin, and are made from a mix of cotton and polyester, and are tailored for a great fit so it isn’t just hanging off your body, whilst at the same time providing complete freedom of movement and being comfortable to wear as an underlayer. There are loads of different designs to choose from, so whether you prefer something understated with just a subtle logo, or a more vibrant design, you will find one that suits your taste.

For those really hot, sweaty days, the Kamo Pro Tee is a great choice as it is manufactured from an active-wear style material, made from polyester, which allows for plenty of airflow to regulate your body temperature and help you not to sweat, as well as wicking any moisture away from your skin.

A t-shirt is a good choice on warmer days or when pushing your gear round the lake to your swim

For those that aren’t so keen on t-shirts, the Korda polo is a good alternative, with a very comfortable fit, as well as being breathable and having additional ventilation under the arms, making it a great choice on warmer days, or when worn under another layer.

Hoodies and jumpers

The evenings and early morning can still be very chilly, and sometimes that days can be as well, so you will need another layer on top of your t-shirt or polo.

A hoody is a great option and in many cases can be used as an outer layer, as long as the temperature doesn’t really drop, especially with the hood to provide extra warmth and protection as well.

As well as the heavy duty TK Hoodie there is also a lightweight version which is great in warmer weather

If you prefer a standard hoodie, then the original Korda TK Hoodie or the Lightweight Hoodie, are both great choices, depending on how cold it is. Both are well tailored and packed full of useful features to both make them even more comfortable, as well as practical for use outdoors and in situations where you need freedom of movement. There is plenty of choice when it comes to colour as well, so you can match it with whatever else you’re wearing.

A zip hoodie is even more practical and allows for even better regulation of body temperature, and can be worn with the zip either completely open, done all the way up, or anywhere inbetween.

The Zip Pro Hoodie will keep you warm and even offers some protection from the rain

The Korda Zip Pro Hoodie is a great choice if the temperature is still quite low, or you are having to deal with chilly winds; or in warmer weather, the standard Korda Zip Hoodie will provide all the protection you need and feels very lightweight to wear.

If you would rather wear a more traditional style jumper, then the Korda Crew Neck is a great option as it is made from a warm fleece material, which feels very comfortable against your skin. It is tailored for a good fit, and a stretchy material around the sleeve cuffs, collar and waist, helps to prevent cold draughts from getting inside it.

The Crew Neck is a good alternative to a hoodie and the sleeves even have special thumb holes and helps keep your hands warm

Joggers and Kombats

When it comes to your lower body, the choice is between some sort of jogging bottoms or combat style trousers.

The Korda jogging trousers come in three different weights, Heavy, Lite, and Ultralite, so whatever the temperature, one of them will be suitable for the situation and you will feel comfortable.

In colder weather you can opt for the Heavy Joggers, which are really comfortable to wear, as well as being warm; or if it is a bit warmer then you have the option of the Lite Joggers, which are made from more of a lightweight material.

The Korda Ultralite Joggers are perfect on hot days where you still need to keep your legs covered up

If it is really warm, but you’re in a situation where you don’t want to wear shorts – such as if lots of mosquitoes are around, then the Ultralite Joggers are a great choice. These have a completely different fit to the other joggers, which are tailored to fit your body, as these are made from an incredibly lightweight material, which is loose fitting and baggy so as to keep you cool, plus the fabric stretches, so you won’t feel restricted when moving around, or even climbing a tree!

Heavy Joggers will keep you warm even if temperatures drop

If you prefer combat style trousers then the Korda Original Kombats are the best option for you, as they are based on a classic military design, with plenty of secure storage space, plus the material is extremely durable and even able to repel water. The material is also designed to wick moisture away from your skin, so will leave you feeling cool even on warmer days.

The Kombats are based on the type of trousers you'd find in the army or navy, and which are highly practical

Warm jackets

Whilst it is worth keeping a winter jacket, such as the Thermolite Puffer or Insulated Hooded Jacket, in your car just in case the conditions really turn cold, most of the time something lighter wait is plenty enough when worn over the top of a hoodie or jumper.

The ideal choice of outer layer in most conditions would be either a Polar Fleece Jacket, or a Hybrid Jacket.

The Korda Polar Fleece jacket is very lightweight and snug to wear, thanks to its heavy knit fleece material and hood, and can be worn either over a hoodie or jumper if it really gets chilly, or directly over a t-shirt- or polo when you need a bit of extra warmth, but not too much and that can be regulated via the full length zip.

A Polar Fleeece Jacket is the perfect outer layer in the spring

The Korda Hybrid Jacket is a good choice if it is really chilly, as the body part of it is made using the same hollow fibre technology used in our Thermolite Puffer Jacket and is designed to keep your core warm.

This jacket is a bit different to others, as the sleeves are made from a heavy knit fleece material, so as to still provide enough warmth but at the same time making them lightweight and allowing plenty of freedom of movement.

Waterproofs

Spring can be a very wet time of year, and even when the weather is nice you can get caught out by sudden heavy showers.

So, you will need to make sure you’ve got a set of waterproofs with you, and the Korda Drykore MK2 Jacket and Over Trousers are the perfect choice to keep you totally dry and comfortable when you’re outside at this time of year.

Drykore is totally waterproof thanks to a 20K hydrophilic membrane, which not only keeps water out but is also very good at stopping the wind from penetrating, as well as being breathable, so wearing it doesn’t make you sweat.

Both the jacket and trousers are packed full of useful features to make them more comfortable, efficient, and user-friendly – with clever touches such as a longer back on the jacket, and side zips on the trousers for easy access to pockets in whatever you’re wearing underneath.
