Our original Drykore jackets and over trousers have been a big success, having proved very popular with anglers looking for something that will not only keep them dry on the bank, but is also practical for fishing.
At Korda we are always keen to listen to our customers, as well as making use of new and improved materials, if we think that we can make a product even better than the original, and that is very much the case with these MK2 versions of the jackets and trousers – the original Drykore is still very good, but we’ve now found a way to make it even more waterproof and breathable, plus it comes in two new colours!
Korda Drykore MK2 is even more waterproof and windproof
Both the Drykore Jacket MK2 and Drykore Over Trousers MK2 feature a completely new and improved material, which makes them even more waterproof thanks to a 20,000 hydrostatic head – versus 15,000 on the original material used for the original Drykore products – and when combined with the taped and sealed seams which this clothing features, it is able to withstand whatever the weather throws at you.
The special 20K hydrophilic internal membrane will not only keep you dry when you’re out wearing it in torrential rain, or even snow, but will also help to keep you warm as it is exceptional at blocking the wind and stopping it from penetrating through the jacket or trousers, even when out in the winter facing a freezing north-easterly.
The new Korda Drykore has improved breathability
The hi tech 100% polyester material also has another essential property when it comes to any waterproof jacket, and that is its ability to be breathable, so that you don’t sweat – if you sweat a lot in waterproofs then that defeats the object as your skin and clothing will still get wet, just soaked in sweat rather than water!
The breathability of the new Drykore material has also been significantly improved, compared to the original, and now has an WVT (water vapour transmission) of 20,000g/m2 versus 15,000g/m2 on the older clothing.
All of this means that both the jacket and trousers can be worn over pretty much any clothing, depending on how warm or cold it is, and make it perfect whether you are out in a heavy summer shower or persistent winter rain.
The fabric used to make the MK2 jacket and trousers is also slightly heavier than the original at 185gsm versus 160gsm, although not so much that you will really notice when wearing it, and has the advantage of making both items of clothing a lot more robust and durable.
Environmentally friendly
As anglers we are of course always concerned about the environment, and for that reason Korda have opted for recycled polyester, instead of the virgin polyester used for the original Drykore clothing, and this makes it more environmentally friendly.
Like the originals, the Drykore Jacket MK2 and Drykore Over Trousers MK2 are both packed full of other features as well, which make them perfect for use whilst out on the bank, as well as any other time when you are spending time outdoors and rain is likely.
Korda Drykore Jacket MK2
In addition to the use of a brand new fabric to make these jackets even more waterproof, there are plenty of other reasons for owning one and why they are the ultimate fishing jacket for any weather conditions.
The material used has sufficient stretch to allow plenty of freedom of movement – essential when casting or playing fish – but is tailored for a good fit to your body, which helps to keep heat in and wind or moisture out, so it won’t hinder your movement and you’ll hardly notice you are wearing it, as this jacket is also very lightweight.
One area that can often end up unintentionally exposed to elements whilst fishing is your lower back, and especially so when you bend or sit down, and your coat rides up. To combat that, the Drykore Jacket is longer at the back than it is at the front, to ensure good coverage of your torso, whatever you are doing, whilst also looking stylish on you.
The hood is multi adjustable, so you can get it just right for the shape of your head and whatever you might be wearing under it, such as a cap or beanie, and ensure a comfortable fit and that it stays in place and keeps you dry even if it is windy – the last thing you want is to be playing a fish in a downpour and for your hood to keep blowing off your head.
The peaked front to the hood means that it maintains its shape, as well as allowing water to run off rather than dripping down, as well as preventing your peripheral vision from being obstructed too much.
A high collar and zip enables a snug fit around your neck or lower face, but at the same time without it feeling uncomfortable, even if you have a beard or stubble, thanks to a flap that prevents contact with the zip. This prevents draughts from getting in, as well as rain if you happen to be facing into it.
One of the worst things when you’re out in the rain wearing a waterproof jacket, is when you pick up your rod, or start pushing your barrow, and water runs down the inside of your sleeve, but thanks to the Velcro cuffs on the sleeves, they can be adjusted so that they are tight enough to help prevent this, whilst still feeling comfortable.
There is plenty of storage space in the Korda Drykore Jacket Mk2 as well, thanks to two large outer pockets, which are zipped and designed to keep the contents dry, or which can be used to keep your hands warm and dry. Plus inner pockets which are ideal for keeping valuables safe, such as your car keys or mobile phone.
This jacket is built to last, with a durable material that is able to withstand regular use out on the bank, or for any other outdoor pursuit, and with high quality zips – the main zip is a two-way design - which won’t let you down and can withstand the sort of mud, grit, or even fish slime, that you can expect them to come into contact with.
Korda Drykore Over Trousers MK2
These trousers have been designed for use at any time of the year and can be worn comfortably over pretty much anything, whether it is the middle of summer or the depths of winter.
They’re really comfortable to wear and have been tailored to provide a good fit, plus the material itself has some stretch to it, so whether you’re walking around the lake, sitting on your bedchair waiting for some action, or even climbing a tree, they won’t restrict your movement – although if wearing them over multiple layers of clothing you will need to take that into consideration when choosing the size.
The addition of microfibre knee patches not only make that area of the over trousers harder wearing, but also adds comfort when kneeling down on the ground, such as when photographing a fish.
An elasticated waist combined with a quick release belt enables you to get just the right fit for you.
Korda Drykore Over Trousers MK2 can be worn with any type of footwear, and are very easy to take on and off, thanks to the Velcro ankle straps that ensure a good fit – it also makes them very easy to put on when wearing other layers such as joggers underneath - whether you are wearing them with a pair of wellies in the winter or Crocs in the summer!
One issue with waterproof trousers in general – whether fishing, going on a hike, walking the dog, or any other outdoor activity – is that often you put on all your clothing to protect you against the elements, before suddenly realising that your car keys or mobile phone are in a pocket inside one of the layers underneath and can’t be accessed without taking it off again!
Not with the Drykore Over Trousers MK2 though, as they have waterproof zips that go from the waist all the way down to the knees on each side, and so make for easy access to pockets in whatever you are wearing underneath them.
